It’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Month – have you been tested?

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and as you may already know, here at Hire A Hubby we are big supporters of this great cause.

 

In 2013 we teamed up with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) to drive awareness of men’s health across Australia – a cause dear to our hearts after the prostate cancer diagnoses affecting a few of our Hubbies.

 

Did you know?

• In Australia, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men
• More than 3000 men die of prostate cancer in Australia every year
• More men die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer

 

With that in mind, we decided we needed to be a part of the solution. We set out to start educating men and women across the country on prostate cancer and the need to get tested.

 

Early detection of prostate cancer saves lives. However men in the high risk category tend to be reluctant to get tested. By helping raise awareness of the need to get tested, our goal has been to help the PCFA increase the number of Australian men getting tested – ensuring that prostate cancer is detected early.

 

To support our goal, one key activity we ran was the ‘Man Van.’ The Man Van is a PCFA and Hire A Hubby branded van, which helps to raise awareness about prostate cancer and the importance of getting tested. Our franchisees and staff volunteer their time touring with the van to help share this message.

 

Since it’s inception in 2015, the Man Van has travelled over 20,000km! It’s been featured at events such as the 2015 V8 Enduro supercar events in Bathurst, the Gold Coast and Sandown, various Bunnings BBQ’s, sailing regattas (NSW & WA), and various Golf Days (VIC & QLD).

 

Significantly, one of the most important activities in support of the PCFA is our donation of $2 per invoice (since 1 April 2023) to the PCFA, thanks to our franchisees. The funds help fund the PCFA’s essential research.

 

In 2016/2017 we raised $100,000 for the PCFA. 

 

In 2020, we raised $500,000 for the PCFA.

 

 

The PCFA is dedicated to reducing the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men, their partners and families. They rely on the generosity of individuals, the community and partnerships to carry out their essential work.
